HONG KONG, April 16 (Reuters) - China's Baidu (9888.HK) said on Tuesday its artificial intelligence chatbot “Ernie Bot” has garnered more than 200 million users as it seeks to remain China’s most popular ChatGPT-like chatbot amid increasingly fierce competition. The number of users has roughly doubled since the company's last update in December.

The Baidu app is available on US Android and iOS app stores but is only in Chinese. Baidu also opened a plug-in market for Ernie Bot. Company representatives said the Ernie Bot surpassed 1 million users in the first 19 hours since launch.
